How I Use AI to Strengthen My Writing Process

As a former English Language Learner and now an educator, I’ve developed a writing process that balances creativity with structure. When approaching assignments—like this blog post—I always start with free writing. I jot down every idea, memory, and professional insight that comes to mind, without worrying about grammar, spelling, or even coherence. For me, capturing the raw thoughts is the most important step; refinement comes later. Once I have my draft, I turn to AI tools (like this one!) for help organizing my ideas into a cohesive, logical flow. I’ll paste my unstructured notes and ask the AI to: Restructure my points for clarity and impact. Polish language without losing my authentic voice. Bridge gaps between personal anecdotes and broader themes (e.g., connecting my high school blogging to modern online pedagogy). This collaboration feels empowering. Reflections on Online Teaching: Challenges, Adaptations, and the Future of Digital Learning

Online teaching and learning are no longer novel concepts—especially after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the world into a remote working and learning environment. That period also marked my first experience teaching an online math course at New York University School of Professional Studies. While online education is here to stay, my journey with it has been both rewarding and challenging.  Initially, I appreciated the convenience of not having to commute to a physical classroom. However, as a math instructor, I quickly realized the difficulties of engaging students in an online setting. Mathematics is inherently procedural, and fostering discussion isn’t always as effective as seeing students’ step-by-step work to assess their understanding.
